Ormat Technologies Inc (NYSE: ORA)

Ormat Technologies is a leading vertically integrated company engaged in the geothermal and recovered enter- power business. It designs, develops, builds, owns, and operates geothermal and recovered energy-based power plants. Recovered energy is waste heat that is a residual by-product of gas turbine-driven compressor stations, and a variety of industrial processes, such as cement mixing.

The company operates in two business segments. The Electricity Segment owns and operates geothermal and recovered energy-based power plants in the U.S. and other countries and sells the electricity they generate. This segment produced 17% of the company's total revenues in 2007 and 83% of that revenue was from sources in the U.S.

As of February 2008 the company owns and operates 12 plants generating a total of 400 MW of power. Of that, 313 MW are in the U.S. As of the end of 2007, eight more plants are under construction with an additional 184 MW of capacity to come on line by the end of 2009. Five more plants are under development with an additional capacity of 102-138 MW of capacity to come on line after 2009.

The Product Segment designs, manufactures and sells equipment for geothermal and recovered energy-based electricity generation. It also produces fossil fuel powered turbo-generators of 200 to 5,000 watts of capacity to operate unattended in extreme climate conditions, whether hot or cold. This segment produced 73% of the total revenue in 2007 and 25% of that revenue was from sources in the U.S..

Covanta Holding Corp (NYSE: CVA)

Covanta Holding Corporation is a developer, owner and operator of infrastructure for the conversion of waste energy (known as "energy-from-waste"), as well as other waste disposal and renewable energy production businesses in the U.S. Europe and Asia. All operations are conducted through subsidiaries which are engaged predominantly in the businesses of waste and energy services. The company also engages in the independent power production business internationally with two hydroelectric projects in Costa Rica.

The company operates in two segments: Domestic (which provided about 88% of total 2007 revenue), and International ( which provided 12%).

The company owns, has equity investments in, and/or operates 57 energy generation facilities, 47 or which are in the U.S. The generation facilities use a variety of fuels, including municipal solid waste, wood waste (biomass), landfill gas, water (hydroelectric), natural gas, coal, and heavy fuel-oil. It also owns or operates several businesses that are associated with Covanta's energy-from-waste business, including a waste procurement business, three landfills, and several waste transfer stations.

Energy-from-waste projects have two essential purposes: to provide waste disposal services, typically to municipal clients who sponsor the projects, and to use that waste as a fuel source to generate electricity or steam. Covanta operates 34 energy-from-waste projects in 15 states.

The company has interests in international projects with an aggregate electricity generating capacity of about 969 MW, with its portion of ownership in the facilities representing about 365 MW.
